Which tool should Genelia consider to prepare the data for analysis?
She can use BI tools such as Tableau, Qlik for sales analysis or power query in excel

Should she attempt to combine the data with a blend or a join?
She should use blend functionality for combining the data

What steps should she consider to ensure that queries are executed efficiently?
    Not sure.

Name: Sylvia FrancisCourse: Tableau Desktop 10.5
    Instructor: Tushar
Assignment Name: Quick Table Calculation with different compute using option.

    1. Quick Table Calculation - Difference - Option Compute using Table(across)
It compares the value from left to right and give you the difference.
    Example: In first row (Central),
    2016value (10) comes from = 2015 value (476) - 2014 value (466)
    2016 value (127) comes from = 2016 value (603) - 2015 value (476)
    2017 value (175) comes from = 2017 value (778) - 2016 value (603)
    upload_2018-5-20_16-38-47.png

    2. Quick Table Calculation - Difference - Option Compute using Table(down)
It compares the value from top to bottom in column and give you the difference.
    Example: In first column (2014),
East value (51) comes from = East value (517) - Central value (466)
South value (-168) comes from = South value (349) - East value (517)
West value (312) comes from = West value (661) - South value (349)
    upload_2018-5-20_16-39-36.png

    3. Quick Table Calculation - Difference - Option Compute using Table(across then down)
It compares the value from left to right and give you the difference for the first row
Then for the first value of 2nd row is calculated from the first value in the 2nd row minus last value in the first row.
    Example: In first row (Central),
    2015 value (10) comes from = 2015 value (476) - 2014 value (466)
    2016 value (127) comes from = 2016 value (603) - 2015 value (476)
    2017 value (175) comes from = 2017 value (778) - 2016 value (603)
Then for the first value of 2nd row (East) is calculated -> -261 = 2014 East value (517) - Central 2017 value (778)
After that it goes across. Only the first value of each row is calculated from first row value minus last row last value.

    upload_2018-5-20_16-40-28.png

    4. Quick Table Calculation - Difference - Option Compute using Table(down then across)
It compares the value from top to bottom in each column and give you the difference
Then for the first value of 2nd column is calculated from the first value of 2nd column minus last value of first column
    Example: In first column (2014),
    East value (51) comes from = East value (517) - Central value(466)
South value (-168) comes from = South value (349) - East value (517)
West value (312) comes from = West value (661) - South value (349)
Then the first value of 2nd column (-185) = first value of 2nd column (476) - last value of first column (661)

    1. Problem Statement -1
    upload_2018-5-21_12-53-44.png

    Solution :

    1. Since data is coming from different sources , she should consider UNION to prepare the data for analysis. Since the data is at different levels of detail she can use PIVOT functionality.
    2. She should attempt to combine the data with a BLEND.
    3. She can FILTER OUT the not necessary data and can use EXTRACT option rather than using LIVE.

    Question for Tushar:
We are MicroStrategy shop since 19 years with Oracle Data Warehouse.
We have one of the team in corporate which uses Tableau. They are Microstrategy users since long time too.
But they want to transition or develop new dashboards in Tableau (at least for those which they think MicroStrategy Visual Insight cannot accomplish). For MicroStrategy we have laid out Attributes and Facts schema objects mapped to Data Warehouse tables columns.
Can we use these schema objects to develop Tableau dashboards?
If not, what does it take to develop dashboards based on integrated Data Warehouse database tables / views?

    P003 RYAN DECKER 01/15/2018 02/01/2018 16
    P004 JACK STYKES 05/01/2018 26

    For P001, I need 5 records each of 4/15, 4/16, 4.17, 4/18, 4/19.
Using this records I will generate the count on monthly basis. e.g. "P002" will have 8 records out of which 2 are for Apr and rest 6 are for May.

In Tableau, you need to prepare your data before hand. You need to have all tables in your database then pull those tables in Tableau and create your report.

You can not show this with the existing data structure. You will have to bring in a date table that has all dates. Join this table with your existing table and set up a filter condition e.g.

Also, I was wondering if our batch could create a whatsapp group. This would help all of us to share ideas and seek advice. That is if we face any tableau related challenge at work, we can post the scenario in the group and all of us can brainstorm or work individually to get the solution. This would help the person who has posted the challenge but it would also help all the other participants who would know the kind of challenge anyone faces and the solution to it. Please let me know your opinion on this.
