    A CIDR Notation slide mentions a /33 network as having 8 addresses... should this be a /29 network? I am pretty sure a /33 cannot exist on an IPv4 network.

    that is correct. IPv4 addresses are only 32bits long.
    its a really bad error. Even the presenter says that 33 bits are set to 1.
