    Kindly explain Frequency plot, Count Plot and Box Plot.

    Frequency Plot - Plots used for uni variate analysis, that helps in understanding the frequency distribution of a variable. frequency plots are generally depicted as histograms where the x axis can be the variable that you are analysing and the y access could be count of occurrences of each value of that variable. in matplotlib frequency plots can be simply plotted using plt.hist

    Countplots are frequency plots using seaborne. its the same concept as that of a frequency plot.

    Boxplot - We learnt about box plot during our sessions and i would urge you to watch the video. but if you want more insight about box plots, understand that 1. they are used for univariate analysis 2. they are best in identifying outliers 3. more useful for numerical data

    here is a good source.

    by the way, if you want to learn more, you can obviously wait for a couple of sessions, when i will cover all the above.

    understand that seaborne is not part of the scope of this course, but i will still try to cover it

    Hi Anand,

    While testing noticed:

    mytuple = 1,2
    type(mytuple)

    output -->tuple

    Is it not necessary to include () to define tuple? Why are we using () ?

    HI Anand/Nishant,

    Please find below the code I executed.

    mylist=[1,"Welcome",100.20,'ITR']
    mylst= [2,"on",200.10,'RTI']
    print(mylist [1] + mylst [1] )

    The output is coming : Welcomeon .

    Now I am trying to get output : Welcome on.(space between welcome and on)
    Kindly explain.

    Thanks,
    Amit.

    thanks for the question and sharing.

    paranthesis are optional in a tuple, BUT IT IS RECOMMENDED to always use them. Python is an intelligent language. it assumes certain things, based on values assigned, just like the dynamic type we learnt in our class(if you remember). this example of tuple you have mentioned also falls in that category.

    there are many such optional in python. As i keep reiterating in the class, these aspects are good to know, but will NOT DO any good in the data science world. so, choose what you want to learn and retain.

    for more syntax related questions
    python.org

    s a good place

    Hi Amit
    Its simple. check the code below. note that, i have add 'on' as ' on'

    mylist = [1,'Welcome',100,20,'ITR']
    mylst = [2,' on',200,10,'RTI']
    print(mylist[1] + mylst[1])

    What i did in 1 line, you have done it in many lines. A simple review of the concept ,could have helped you achieve this efficiency.
    I am sure you must have spent an hour on this right??? :) ..

    dataf = pd.DataFrame(data=rand(6,5),index= ['January','Feburary','March','April','May', 'June'],columns=['Sunday','Monday','Tuesday','Wednesday','Thursday'])
    print(dataf)
    dataf['Friday'] = dataf['Wednesday'] + dataf['Thursday']
    print(dataf)
    dataf.drop('Wednesday',axis=1)
    dataf

    In output the Wednesday is not getting dropped.

    Hi All,

    For the movielens project, do we have to clean the .dat file before reading it ?
    It is showing '::' which I would like to remove from my frame.

    Amit,
    kindly go over the recordings again.

    what do you mean nothing happened? read_csv will NOT give any output.

    if you are not getting any error , it means read_csv has worked fine.

    To check whether your data frame has all the columns, use dataframename.info()

    By the way, i tried the read at my end , the read is perfectly working for me. see below

    df = pd.read_csv('C:\\Users\\anand.subramaniam\\DataScience\\nycfile.csv')

    df.info()

    output -
    class 'pandas.core.frame.DataFrame'>
    RangeIndex: 364558 entries, 0 to 364557
    Data columns (total 53 columns):

    focus on the foundations. go over the initial notebooks and videos.

    please tell me what is the error you are getting ...or at least send me the full code.
    its not possible to tell what went wrong with just your message.

    You have missed coding inplace= True. that is why that column is not dropped.

    try the below in the exact same sequence

    1) define the dataframe

    dataf = pd.DataFrame(data=np.random.rand(6,5),index= ['January','Feburary','March','April','May', 'June'],columns=['Sunday','Monday','Tuesday','Wednesday','Thursday'])

    2) print dataframe and check inputs
    print(dataf)

    3) drop the column
    dataf.drop('Wednesday',axis=1)
    "you will note that the column was dropped"

    4) print the dataframe
    print(dataf)
    you will note that the column is still reflecting

    5) drop the column again as below
    dataf.drop('Wednesday',axis=1,inplace=True)
    6) print dataframe
    print(dataf)
    you will now note that the column has been permanently dropped

    Hi Anand,

    The complaint types from my count graph are scratch. I can barely the first and last type of complaint, the rest are neither visible nor clear.
    Would you mind helping me on that matter?
    Would you like to provide a better way to get all the complaint types visible from that graph?

    I look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Best Regard,

    Arnaud Davy MM
