    Hi,
I happen to create maps in tableau but the data set provided to me is string eg. city , state, country, (pin code in number). but i could not assingn geographic role to them. So latitude And Longitude are not generated so it is not posiible to plot any on the map.

Strangely, I opened the same data source as you (Sample Superstore) but did not have any issues with the geographical field. If I'm not wrong, Latitude and Longitude is generated when Tableau Desktop recognizes there is a geographical field (e.g. Country, States, Zip).

So you might want to reconnect the data source again and also double-check the if there is dataset in the data source of Sample Superstore. If there are no data related to (Country, States, Zip) then Tableau will not be able to recognize which in turn will not be able to generate the geographical measures.
