What are the benefits to renewing my CAPM credential?
Renewing the CAPM credential could have several good outcomes. For one, it shows your employer that you are dedicated to the career path. And, though you might think it would be easier to take the PMP exam, this requires many hours of actual real world project management experience. If you are not seeking a job as project manager, but want to be part of a team, you will need the CAPM to show your competence in project related tasks. For another thing, you will have the chance to seek better paying positions within your own company or when you seek employment elsewhere.
You will need to renew your CAPM certificaiton at least once every five years. And, by the end of your first five years of certitifcation, you are likely to already have enough verifiable hours of project management experience to sit for the PMP exam. So rather than renewing your CAPM, you might consider just applying to sit for the PMP exam which is more prestigious in the industry and considered an essential for heading projects at major companies.
