Which major Fortune 500 companies are more likely to require the PMP certification for project managers?

Major companies and government agencies worldwide recognize the PMP certification. Several Fortune 1000 companies demand that all of their employees or subcontractors that are engaged in project management activities should be PMPs. In other words, the PMP certification has become a market differentiator; companies that do not have PMP certification programs are at a competitive disadvantage.

Any major corporation would expect an employee to obtain the highest level certification for their job. For project managers, that would be the PMP.

According to one PMI document, over 12,000 IBM employees are PMP certification holders.

This just goes to show you how serious big business takes this certification.

The PMP certification is a capstone for a distinguished project management career and most PMP recipients have many years as project managers and a long list of resume accomplishments long before receiving the certification. So more than anything, the certification just confirms what years of hard work on the job has already taught.
